Keyword and SEO Optimization For Amazon KDP and Etsy

Welcome back to our blog! We have a bit of news before going to our topic of the month.

What’s New

We created a composition notebook in Amazon KDP during this past month, as well as updated the descriptions of a few books, but the wait time for these changes is astounding. We realize it’s because of the Q4 backlog in Amazon KDP based on what we experienced last year, so this isn’t surprising. I’m not in a hurry to get this notebook into production since it’s an evergreen item. Patience is a virtue, and hopefully, one that will eventually pay off.

This past month we expanded to open an Etsy store, offering digital products and print-on-demand items. The digital items include Christmas cards and addition printables for kids. We started the print-on-demand items with an “Avongers” mug (which is based on a non-trademarked gag product shown on the She-Hulk series on Disney+) and then with Halloween T-shirts.

This month we plan to refine our keywords and descriptions of products on all our platforms, which leads us to this month’s topic of discussion.

Keywords and SEO

Keywords and Search Engine Optimization (SEO) are something that should be continuously improved over the months. It doesn’t matter if you are using Etsy, Amazon KDP, Redbubble, or another platform, keywords and SEO are what bring your customers into your store. This is a skill that can be improved as time goes on. The formula is the same across most of these platforms:

  • Create a descriptive title for your product that is full of keywords, WITHOUT sounding robotic. The title should make sense and should not be a group of random keyword phrases.

  • The description should be full, selling your product to your audience. The description should also contain longtail keywords that would not fit or did not make sense in the title (and subtitle, as in Amazon KDP). You should also reuse the keywords used in the title in the description, as you describe what your product is about.

  • Tag words (in Etsy) and keywords (in KDP) should be additional keywords that were not used in the title and description. These should improve the ability of your product to be found organically in searches.

  • Mockup images are also very important. On Etsy, there are ten slots for images for each product, and they recommend you should use all of them. Don’t forget to create alt descriptions for each image that includes search keywords. In KDP, the only way you can add images to your products is through A+ Content, which is extremely important to fully create.

Hopefully, these tips can help you get more sales in your own stores.
